Types of otoplasty
Doctors offer patients classical otoplasty with a surgical scalpel or laser. The use of a laser is a more modern
and
safe technique, which is currently used by progressive plastic surgeons in Turkey.
Otoplasty is divided into two types:
-
Aesthetic. The procedure is aimed at changing the shape and size of the ears. The doctor models the
cartilage
located behind the auricle. This allows you to eliminate aesthetic defects, making the ears neat, harmonious
and
attractive.
-
Reconstructive. It is used to completely restore the auricles after injuries. The surgeon also recreates the
missing
cartilage if a part of the ear or ear canal is missing. This type of plastic surgery helps to restore the
organ
after severe burns, correct congenital malformations.
Each type of otoplasty differs in the volume of surgical intervention, complexity and duration of the procedure.
The
doctor will tell you how much is otoplasty beforehand.
Who needs otoplasty
Surgical intervention is indicated for patients who have such pathologies:
- protruding ears (lop-eared);
- poorly developed curl;
- the height of the bowl is too high;
- the size of the shells is too large or too small;
- asymmetrical shape of the ears;
- the presence of serious injuries, burns.
Contraindications to otoplasty are standard for any surgical intervention: acute inflammatory process, presence
of
infectious diseases, benign or malignant tumors, serious heart problems, diabetes mellitus. The operation is
prescribed only after a thorough examination of the patient.
Laser otoplasty
This type of surgical intervention is one of the most popular services in clinics in Turkey. The laser beam
easily
dissects the tissue, making the incision non-contact and perfectly smooth. When using a conventional scalpel,
such
results cannot be achieved. In addition, the laser affects the cartilage tissue, changing the shape of the ears.
Here are the main advantages of laser otoplasty:
- non-contact incision;
- complete disinfection of the operating field;
- reducing the risk of bleeding due to the fact that the laser glues the walls of blood vessels;
- cartilage tissue is easily formed, as it becomes very plastic when heated;
- after lop ear correction surgery, there is a minimum of bruising and swelling;
- incision sites heal completely without scars and scars;
- acceleration of the rehabilitation process;
- minimization of pain.
The operation lasts from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Local anesthesia is used for adult patients, and general
anesthesia
is used for children. After surgery, sutures (self-absorbable or non-absorbable) and a sterile bandage are
applied.
The rehabilitation period is reduced to 2-3 weeks. For the first few hours after the operation, the patient is
under
the supervision of a doctor in a hospital. Further care can take place on an outpatient basis: every 2 days it
is
necessary to do dressings. It is also important to follow all the doctor`s instructions so that the healing
process
goes smoothly. The stitches are removed for 7-10 days.
Otoplasty with a surgical scalpel
The incision is made behind the ear fold using a conventional surgical scalpel. After dissecting the cartilage,
the
excess tissue is excised and the auricle is formed. Previously, this was the only method of performing surgery.
However, today it is used less and less, as it has a number of significant drawbacks:
- uneven edges of cuts;
- high risk of bleeding;
- severe swelling and hematomas;
- pronounced painful sensations;
- slower tissue healing;
- development of complications (fistula, inflammation);
- unaesthetic scars behind the ears.
The main advantage of classical otoplasty is a lower cost compared to laser correction. Before choosing a
particular
type of surgical intervention, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
Otoplasty is a very popular procedure. Ear defects look unsightly, negatively affect a person`s self-esteem and
worsen the quality of his life. In the presence of serious injuries, assistance is required. Otoplasty is done
only
once, and the result from it is preserved throughout the patient`s life.
Leading clinics in Turkey offer different types of otoplasty. Operations are performed by experienced and highly
qualified surgeons. Prices for otoplasty, reviews can be viewed on the websites of clinics.
Doctors use innovative
technologies and the most modern medicines in their work. Operations are performed with minimal discomfort for
the
patient and without complications. You will get rid of the defects of the auricles forever, and you will feel
comfortable and confident.
