What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a procedure to correct the shape of the nose surgically. The operation is quite simple, as a
rule,
does not require preliminary preparation or long-term rehabilitation from the patient.
Of course, the general state of health of a visitor to a plastic surgery clinic is of great importance.
Therefore,
it is mandatory to consult with several specialists - a therapist, a cardiologist, a nephrologist. After their
consultation and receiving a conclusion, an examination is carried out directly by a plastic surgeon.
There may be many reasons for rhinoplasty. In most cases, the operation is performed simply because a person
wished
to correct the shape or length of the nose, remove the hump or curvature. Of course, there are also medical
reasons
for the procedure – a curvature of the septum, a fracture.
Indications and contraindications for rhinoplasty
There is no person who would be completely satisfied with his appearance. And often it is the nose that causes
particular dissatisfaction. So, the aesthetic reasons for the operation are:
- the size of the nose does not correspond to the general features – it is too big or vice versa small;
- small hump;
- asymmetrical shape – the nose is curved to the side;
- the back of the nose is disproportionate – too arched, thin or thick;
- the nose is too long;
- a thickened or too thin tip of the nose;
- wide nostrils.
Often the wrong shape of the nose gives a person significant emotional discomfort. In this case, the operation
is
actually necessary. In addition to the emotional component, there are also medical reasons for rhinoplasty:
-
congenital or acquired deformation of the septum – this pathology significantly interferes with breathing,
and
therefore requires correction;
- fractures of the nose - injuries cause severe deformation, entail difficulty breathing.
Since rhinoplasty is an operation, it has a number of contraindications. These include:
-
diabetes is a disease that negatively affects the speed of recovery after surgery. In addition, the risk of
an
infectious complication is significantly increased;
- diseases of the cardiovascular system, in particular - blood clotting disorders;
- common diseases in acute form;
- collagenosis is a pathology in which there is a lesion of connective tissues;
- the presence of the patient`s tendency to the active appearance of keloid scars;
- mental illness;
- pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Before the procedure, the patient undergoes a medical examination, according to the results of which the final
decision on the operation is made.
Types of rhinoplasty
Since there are many problems with the shape of the nose, the types of procedures carried out for correction may
differ. So, there are several main types of rhinoplasty:
-
nose base plastic surgery is the main purpose - correction of the shape of the nostrils (most often reducing
their
width). The procedure is quite simple, takes a little time. the swelling after the operation goes away
quickly
enough, only barely noticeable scars remain:
-
correction of the tip of the nose - despite the apparent simplicity, the operation is considered one of the
most
difficult. After all, in order to give the tip of the nose an ideal shape, eliminating flaws or curvatures,
the
surgeon needs a lot of experience;
-
correction of the septum (columella) is the visible part of the nose, the septum between the nostrils. As a
rule,
the procedure is carried out exclusively for aesthetic reasons;
-
shape correction is the most common type of rhinoplasty, and one of the most difficult. During the
operation,
cartilage and bone structures are affected. This allows you to eliminate the hump of the nose, make the back
more
even, give the correct shape;
-
rhinoseptoplasty is the main purpose of this procedure - correction of the nasal septum, elimination of its
damage,
curvature. As a rule, it is carried out for medical reasons, since a defect in the septum can interfere with
normal
breathing;
- augmentation rhinoplasty is a corrective procedure to strengthen the bone structure;
-
grafting is the restoration of cartilage tissue of the nose. During the procedure, the graft is taken from
the
patient`s rib;
-
reconstructive rhinoplasty is the restoration of the nose after injuries, unsuccessful operations. It is
possible to
use cartilage tissues of the patient`s body or artificial implants as a transplant;
- conchotomy is a procedure performed for medical reasons in the presence of mucosal hypertrophy;
- electrocoagulation is another way to correct hypertrophied mucosa (prescribed for minor changes);
-
laser rhinoplasty is the most modern way to correct the shape of the nose. The main difference from
conventional
rhinoplasty is the use of a laser instead of a scalpel. This minimizes tissue damage.
Separately, such a type of rhinoplasty as non-surgical should be considered. Thanks to modern techniques, it is
possible to correct minor defects in the shape of the nose with injections. The injected drug directly depends
on
the purpose of the procedure. Thus, non-surgical rhinoplasty uses:
-
fillers are necessary to correct the shape of the nose. A dense material is inserted under the skin,
allowing to
soften the sharp tip of the nose, make the back wider;
- absorbable drugs are necessary to reduce the tip of the nose, eliminate bulges and irregularities.
Another very popular type of non–surgical correction is contouring of the nose through the introduction of
hyaluronic acid. The cities in Turkey where this type of rhinoplasty is most common are nose job
Istanbul, Ankara,
Izmir. But this procedure is used only in the presence of minor defects in the shape of the nose.
Methods of rhinoplasty
The methods of nose correction can be different. If we talk about the operation, it is carried out in two ways -
open and closed.
Open rhinoplasty
An operation in which incisions are made in the area of the nasal septum (columella) and nostrils. As a result,
the
surgeon gets extensive access, allowing him to evaluate and adjust the location of cartilage and bone tissue. As
a
rule, it is the open method of rhinoplasty that is more accurate. In addition, this method is used if the
procedure
involves correcting several defects at once.
Closure rhinoplasty
In this operation, the incision is only in the nasal cavity. The advantage of the method is that the scars after
rhinoplasty are completely invisible. In addition, with this method of surgery, important blood vessels are not
affected – this contributes to faster and easier healing. The disadvantages of the procedure include inaccuracy
–
the surgeon has to work without seeing the full picture.
Recovery after the procedure
The duration of recovery after rhinoplasty depends on several factors. First of all, it depends on what kind of
goal
was set. So, for example, when correcting the shape of the tip of the nose, recovery is much faster than after
augmentation rhinoplasty.
Another important factor is the method of the procedure. With the open method, vascular damage is possible. This
means that the healing process will be longer and quite painful.
Surgical methods of rhinoplasty involve the application of plaster after surgery. The first days may experience
severe swelling, the appearance of bruises under the eyes. As a rule, they go completely after a week.
When rhinoplasty is performed by non-surgical methods, such consequences are not observed.
Choosing a clinic
When choosing a clinic for the procedure, many factors must be taken into account. First of all, the
availability of
licenses and qualified, experienced specialists. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the information provided –
in
particular, the photos "before and after" on which the work of the surgeon is perfectly visible. In addition to
photos, it will be useful to get acquainted with the reviews of patients. The lack of reviews should be alarming
–
often clinics simply delete negative comments.
Today, many patients choose Turkish clinics as the venue for rhinoplasty. There are several reasons. First of
all,
rhinoplasty in Turkey price, is quite low. At the same time, the quality of the procedure is
very high. For
comparison, the cost in Italian or French clinics for the same procedure is on average twice as high.
Rhinoplasty is a simple and affordable way to change your appearance. In order for the nose to become the way
you
want, it is enough to take just a few simple steps. And after a very little time, you will be able to enjoy a
wonderful result.
