DHI Hair Transplant

DHI (direct hair implantation) is a variation of FUE. Follicles are extracted one by one in the same way, but they are implanted with a pen-shaped tool that creates the channel and places the graft in a single movement. This allows close control over the angle and direction of each graft.

Both use the same extraction method. In classic FUE, channels are opened first and grafts placed afterwards; in DHI, opening and placing happen together with an implanter pen. DHI is often used for dense work in a smaller area, such as a hairline. Neither is better for everyone — the recommendation depends on your hair and the area to be covered.

DHI may suit people who need a defined area covered at good density, those refining a hairline, and some who prefer minimal shaving of the recipient area. For very large areas, other approaches may be more practical. Donor density, hair type and the pattern of loss are assessed before a technique is chosen.

Recovery is broadly similar: redness, small scabs and some swelling in the first days, a first wash and aftercare instructions, and expected shedding of transplanted hairs in the following weeks. Many people return to desk work within about a week. Follow the instructions on washing, sleeping position and avoiding sun, sweating and pressure on the grafts.

It depends on your donor area, the size of the area being treated and the time the procedure takes, rather than on the technique's name. Because DHI implantation is meticulous, sessions are sometimes planned for smaller areas. The medical team gives a preliminary estimate from photos and confirms it after examining you.
