Breast Lift in Turkey

Table of Content
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes breasts that have dropped. The surgeon removes stretched skin, tightens and reshapes the breast tissue, and moves the nipple and areola to a higher position, often reducing an enlarged areola at the same time. If you are considering a breast lift in Turkey, Plastic Surgery Turkey Group (PSTG) coordinates your assessment, travel and aftercare, and the operation is performed by the treating surgeon at a contracted healthcare institution in Istanbul or Antalya.
The key point about a lift is what it does not do: it does not add volume. It uses the tissue you already have, repositioned into a firmer, more lifted shape. For many women that is exactly what they want. For others, particularly after significant volume loss, the surgeon may suggest adding an implant. You can see how the breast operations relate to each other across our plastic surgery procedures.
Breast lift at a glance#
- What it is: an operation that removes loose skin, reshapes the breast and raises the nipple and areola. It does not add volume.
- Anaesthesia: usually general anaesthesia.
- Operating time: typically around two to three hours, depending on the technique.
- Hospital stay: many patients stay one night.
- Time in Turkey: many patients plan around a week. The surgeon reviews your wounds and confirms when you can fly.
- Back to desk work: often within one to two weeks. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise wait several weeks.
- Final result: swelling settles and the breasts soften into shape over roughly three to six months, and scars keep maturing for a year or more.
- Usually not advised if: you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you smoke and cannot stop, you have uncontrolled diabetes or an untreated breast lump, or you plan pregnancies or major weight loss soon.
Who is a good candidate#
Breasts drop (ptosis) for several reasons: pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight change, age and the natural weight of the breast stretching skin and supporting ligaments. You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if:
- your nipples sit at or below the fold beneath the breast, or point downwards;
- your breasts have a longer, flatter shape than they used to, with most of the tissue in the lower half;
- your areolas have stretched or become enlarged;
- you are happy with your current breast size, or would like it slightly smaller;
- you are healthy, at a stable weight and do not smoke, or can stop well before surgery.
A breast lift alone is usually not the right choice if your main concern is size. If your breasts feel empty in the upper half and you want more fullness, a lift will improve position but will not restore volume, and the surgeon may recommend a breast lift with implants. If your breasts are a good height but simply small, breast augmentation may be enough without the extra scars of a lift.
Many surgeons also advise waiting if you plan further pregnancies, are still breastfeeding, or expect to lose a lot more weight, since each of these can undo part of the result. Heavy smokers, people with uncontrolled diabetes, and anyone with an untreated breast lump or abnormal screening result are generally asked to address those issues first.
Techniques and options#
The technique depends mainly on how far the breast has dropped and how much excess skin needs to be removed. More lift generally means a longer scar, and the surgeon balances shape against scar length for your anatomy.
| Technique | Where the scars sit | Best suited to | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crescent lift | A small half-moon above the areola | Very minor drooping | Gives only a small lift |
| Periareolar ("donut") | Around the edge of the areola | Mild drooping, and reducing the areola | Limited lifting power, and can flatten the breast if pushed too far |
| Vertical ("lollipop") | Around the areola and down to the breast fold | Moderate drooping | Allows the surgeon to narrow and project the breast, with a longer scar |
| Anchor (inverted-T) | Around the areola, down to the fold and along the fold | Significant drooping or a lot of loose skin | The longest scar, and the most control over shape |
Some surgeons also use internal techniques to support the new shape, such as rearranging the breast tissue into a higher position or using the patient's own tissue as an internal support. Fat grafting to the upper breast is occasionally added for mild volume, but this is a small change. A lift can also be combined with a reduction when the breasts are both heavy and low. This is planned as a reduction rather than a pure lift, and it is discussed at your consultation.
Breast lift alone, or with implants?#
The two operations solve different problems, and the choice is usually clear after an examination.
| Option | What it does | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|
| Breast lift alone | Raises and firms the tissue you already have | Women happy with their size who want higher, firmer breasts |
| Breast lift with implants | Raises the breast and adds volume in the same operation | Women whose breasts have dropped and lost fullness, often after pregnancy |
| Breast augmentation alone | Adds volume without lifting | Women whose breasts sit at a good height and are simply small |
What about a non-surgical breast lift?#
Radiofrequency, ultrasound and similar treatments are sometimes offered as non-surgical lifts. They produce only subtle tightening and may suit women with very mild sagging, but they are not a substitute for surgery when there is real drooping or loose skin. If you are unsure which category you fall into, the surgeon can tell you from your photos and examination.
How the procedure is carried out#
You meet the surgeon in person before surgery. The surgeon examines you standing, measures the position of the nipple relative to the breast fold, and marks the incisions on your skin. Blood tests and any other anaesthetic checks are done beforehand.
On the day:
- a breast lift is usually carried out under general anaesthesia;
- it typically takes around two to three hours, depending on the technique and whether other work is done at the same time;
- the surgeon removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue into a higher, more compact cone and moves the nipple-areola upwards, usually keeping it attached to its blood and nerve supply;
- the incisions are closed in layers, dressings are applied and you are fitted with a surgical bra. Drains are sometimes used.
Many patients stay one night in hospital for monitoring before returning to the hotel.
Recovery and results#
Recovery from a breast lift is usually steady rather than dramatic, but the scars need care for many months.
- First few days: swelling, bruising and tightness are normal. Prescribed medication keeps discomfort under control, and short walks help circulation.
- First one to two weeks: wound checks and dressing changes take place at follow-up appointments. Many patients return to light activity and desk-based work in this period.
- Weeks two to six: the surgical bra is worn as instructed. Heavy lifting, strenuous exercise and anything that pulls on the chest are avoided until the surgeon agrees.
- Three to six months: swelling settles and the breasts soften into their final shape. The upper breast may look very full at first and then relax.
- Twelve months or more: scars gradually flatten and fade, though they remain visible. How well they mature varies between people.
A realistic result is higher, firmer-looking breasts with nipples that face forward and areolas in proportion. The new position is long-lasting, but gravity, ageing, weight change and pregnancy continue to act on breast tissue, so some descent over the years is expected. Keeping a stable weight and wearing supportive bras helps the result hold for longer.
PSTG's before-and-after gallery does not have a section for breast lift alone. The breast lift with implants gallery shows how lifted and refilled breasts can look, but remember that each photo is one patient and the result depends on her anatomy, skin and healing.
Risks and limitations#
Every operation carries risk. Those most relevant to a breast lift include:
- bleeding, haematoma or infection;
- delayed wound healing, particularly where scars meet in an anchor lift;
- scars that stretch, thicken or heal darker than the surrounding skin;
- changes in nipple sensation, which may be temporary or lasting;
- rarely, poor blood supply to the nipple or areola, with partial loss of tissue;
- asymmetry in shape, size or nipple height;
- recurrence of some drooping over time;
- a possible effect on breastfeeding, as noted in the FAQ.
The anaesthetic and blood-clot risks are also discussed before surgery. Smoking significantly increases the risk of wound-healing problems, so surgeons usually ask you to stop well in advance. Minor revisions, for example to a scar or to fine-tune symmetry, are sometimes needed once the tissues have settled.
How the price is built#
A breast lift is priced as a plan, because the amount of work depends on how far your breasts have dropped. The main things that shape a quote are:
- the technique, from a limited periareolar lift to a full anchor lift;
- whether a reduction, an implant or fat grafting is added, which makes it a different operation;
- the hospital stay and the anaesthetic;
- how long you stay in Turkey and the hotel category;
- what is coordinated around surgery: transfers, interpreter or assistant, medication, surgical bra, nursing and wound care, follow-up visits and virtual follow-up after you fly home.
PSTG gives a written treatment plan and quote only after the surgeon has reviewed your photos and medical history. When you compare quotes from any provider, ask in writing which technique is planned, whether the hospital stay, anaesthetist, medication and surgical bra are included, how many nights in Turkey are covered, what the revision policy is and how aftercare works once you are home. Our guide to what shapes the price of a breast lift in Turkey goes through this in more detail.
Flying in from the UK, the US or Australia#
Most of our patients travel a long way, and the journey home is part of the plan.
- From the UK: direct flights to Istanbul leave from several UK airports, and the journey is commonly three to five hours depending on where you start. Before you go, tell your GP about your plans. Bring home your operation notes and a list of the medication you were given, because anyone checking your wounds will want to know what was done.
- From the US and Canada: flights are typically around ten hours or more. Surgeons are often more cautious about when you fly after surgery, so compression socks, walking and hydration matter.
- From Australia and New Zealand: with connections, the journey commonly takes 20 hours or more each way. Plan a longer stay and ask the surgeon how long they want you in Turkey before a long-haul flight.
Many surgeons advise avoiding flying for a short period after surgery, and yours confirms when it is safe for you. On the flight, keep moving, stay hydrated and wear your surgical bra. Once you are home, we arrange virtual follow-up with photo check-ins and can coordinate with your home doctor for stitch or wound checks. If you notice fever, spreading redness, a wound opening, rapidly increasing swelling on one side, chest pain or a swollen, painful calf, seek urgent care locally and tell your PSTG coordinator at the same time.
Planning your treatment in Turkey#
The first step is an online assessment. You send clear photos of your breasts from the front and both sides, your height and weight, your medical history and whether you are happy with your current size. The surgeon reviews this and gives an initial view of how much drooping there is, which technique is likely and whether volume should also be discussed. A written treatment plan and quote follow once this assessment is complete. Our guide on what to check before plastic surgery in Turkey is a useful checklist at this stage.
PSTG coordinates the practical arrangements, including:
- airport, hotel and clinic transfers;
- a 4-5-star hotel stay;
- a personal interpreter or assistant;
- pre- and post-operative consultations and follow-up appointments;
- post-operative medication and nursing and wound care;
- 24/7 support during your stay.
If you are also thinking about your abdomen after pregnancy, a lift is often part of a mommy makeover; the surgeon decides whether combining procedures is sensible for you.
Where treatment takes place#
Surgery takes place at contracted healthcare institutions authorised for international health tourism in Istanbul and Antalya. The treating surgeon makes every clinical decision, including the technique, whether to add volume and when you can travel. PSTG is a health-tourism intermediary affiliated with TÜRSAB: we coordinate your treatment and stay, and we do not perform medical procedures.
