What the lift and the implant each do
Two things happen in this procedure. The lift (mastopexy) removes loose skin and raises the nipple and breast tissue; the implant adds volume, especially in the upper part of the breast that often empties after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss. In the photos, compare nipple height relative to the breast fold, upper-pole fullness, and symmetry between the two sides.
Who these photos are relevant to
They are most comparable if your breasts sag and have also lost volume. If they sag but you are happy with the size, a lift alone may be enough; if they have lost volume without sagging, an implant alone may be considered. Your surgeon decides after examining skin quality, nipple position and breast tissue. Tell your surgeon if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy, because each can change the result.
Scars, risks and limits
A lift always leaves scars: around the areola, usually a vertical line down to the fold, and sometimes a scar in the fold itself. Risks include wound-healing problems, changes in nipple sensation, capsular contracture (scar tissue tightening around the implant), rupture and a chance of revision surgery later; implants are not lifetime devices. How the result develops
- First week: Breasts are swollen and tight and sit high. A supportive surgical bra is worn as your surgeon advises.
- Weeks 2–6: Swelling eases; your surgeon will advise when to resume lifting and arm exercise.
- Months 2–4: The implants settle lower and the breasts soften into a more natural shape.
- Months 6–12: Scars mature and the shape is settled. Healed after photos are the fair comparison from this point.
