Hollywood Smile

Table of Content
A Hollywood smile is not a single product or procedure. It is a treatment plan that combines several types of dental work, most often veneers or crowns on the teeth that show when you smile, sometimes with whitening, gum contouring or other treatment, to give a more even, balanced smile. If you are planning a Hollywood smile in Turkey, Plastic Surgery Turkey Group (PSTG) coordinates your assessment, travel and aftercare, and the dental work is carried out by a dentist at a contracted healthcare institution authorised for international health tourism.
Because every mouth is different, two Hollywood smile plans can look very different on paper. The starting point is always the health of your teeth and gums, not the number of veneers. You can see the full range of options on the dental treatment in Turkey page.
Who is a good candidate#
A smile makeover may suit you if you have healthy gums and teeth, or problems that can be treated first, and you are unhappy with several aspects of your smile at once, for example:
- teeth of different colours, including old fillings or crowns that no longer match
- chipped, worn or short teeth
- gaps, uneven edges or teeth of irregular size
- a gum line that is uneven or shows a lot when you smile
A plan may not be appropriate, or may need to be changed, if you have:
- untreated decay, gum disease or infection
- significant crowding or bite problems that orthodontic treatment would correct more conservatively
- heavy grinding that has not been assessed and managed
- healthy teeth that only need to be lighter, where whitening alone may be enough
- expectations of a very white, uniform look that would not suit your face or would mean removing a lot of healthy tooth structure
Techniques and options#
A Hollywood smile is built from individual treatments, chosen tooth by tooth.
Veneers#
Porcelain veneers cover the front of the tooth and are used to change colour, shape and length. E-max veneers are widely used for their natural translucency. Very thin options such as Lumineers may suit selected cases with little or no preparation. Conventional veneers need a thin layer of enamel to be removed, which cannot be undone.
Crowns#
Crowns cover the whole tooth. They are generally reserved for teeth that are broken, heavily filled or root-treated, or that need extra strength, and zirconia is a common material. Crowns remove considerably more tooth structure than veneers, so they should not be used on healthy teeth simply to change their colour.
Teeth whitening#
Teeth whitening lightens natural teeth and is often done early in a plan, so any veneers or crowns can be matched to the new shade. Whitening does not change the colour of existing restorations.
Gum contouring and other treatment#
Where the gum line is uneven, the dentist may reshape it, sometimes with a laser, to give the teeth more balanced proportions. Other work, such as fillings, root canal treatment, or dental implants for missing teeth, may be part of the plan or need to be completed first.
How the procedure is carried out#
- Examination and diagnosis. The dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite, takes X-rays and photographs, and identifies anything that needs treatment first.
- Smile design. Shape, length and shade are planned around your face, lips and skin tone. A digital design or a trial mock-up in the mouth lets you see the proposed result before any tooth is prepared.
- Foundation work. Any decay, gum problems or root canal treatment is dealt with, and whitening is carried out if planned.
- Preparation and temporaries. Under local anaesthesia, teeth are prepared as planned, scans or impressions are sent to the laboratory, and temporary restorations are fitted. This is a good time to check how the new shape looks and feels.
- Final fitting. Several days later, the dentist tries in the veneers or crowns, checks fit, colour and bite, then bonds or cements them in place and makes final adjustments.
Longer appointments are common when many teeth are treated in one session.
Recovery and results#
- First days: sensitivity to hot and cold, mild gum soreness and a feeling that the teeth are "new" are normal. Speech may take a few days to adapt.
- First weeks: the gums settle around the restorations. Bite adjustments may be needed at a follow-up visit, in person or with your local dentist.
- Long term: with good care, veneers and crowns can last many years, although they may chip, loosen or need replacing eventually.
A natural-looking result depends on your starting point and on choosing a shade and shape that suit you rather than the whitest option available. Daily brushing and cleaning between teeth, regular check-ups and a night guard if you grind help protect your new smile.
Risks and limitations#
- Irreversible changes: preparing teeth for veneers or crowns removes enamel permanently, so the teeth will always need a covering.
- Sensitivity and nerve problems: usually temporary, but a heavily prepared tooth occasionally needs root canal treatment.
- Chipping, fracture or loosening of restorations, especially with grinding.
- Gum inflammation or recession around restoration edges if hygiene is poor.
- Aesthetic mismatch: a shade or shape you do not like, which is why the mock-up and temporary stage matter.
The term "Turkey teeth" is used in the media for over-prepared, very white crowns placed on otherwise healthy teeth. Avoiding this starts with proper diagnosis, conservative choices and a clear explanation of why each tooth is included. The article on the "Turkey teeth" myth vs. reality covers the questions to ask. How conservative your treatment can be is decided by the treating dentist after examining you.
Planning your treatment in Turkey#
You start by sending photos of your smile from several angles and any recent X-rays. A dentist reviews them online and may ask for more information. After this medical assessment, you receive a written treatment plan and quote listing each tooth, the proposed treatment and material, and the number of appointments.
Many veneer- or crown-based plans are completed in one trip, with several days between preparation and final fitting. If foundation work such as gum treatment, root canal treatment or implants is needed, the plan may take longer or require a second visit. The expected length of stay is set out in writing before you book.
PSTG can coordinate:
- pre- and post-treatment consultations
- a 4–5-star hotel
- airport, hotel and clinic transfers
- a personal interpreter or assistant
- 24/7 support during your stay
- follow-up appointments in Turkey and virtual follow-up once you are home
- coordination with your dentist at home
You can usually fly home soon after the final fitting. Take your treatment records home so your local dentist can look after your restorations.
Where treatment takes place#
Treatment is carried out at contracted healthcare institutions in Istanbul and Antalya that are authorised for international health tourism. The treating dentist examines you, decides which treatment each tooth needs and makes every clinical decision. PSTG is a health-tourism intermediary affiliated with TÜRSAB and coordinates your travel, accommodation and communication.
If you are thinking about a smile makeover, you are welcome to send your photos for a free, no-obligation assessment. You will receive a written plan explaining what is proposed and why, so you can decide calmly.
