Mommy Makeover in Turkey

Table of Content
A mommy makeover is not a single operation but a planned combination of procedures that address the changes pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight fluctuation can leave behind. Most plans focus on the abdomen and breasts, often with liposuction to refine the waist and hips. If you are considering a mommy makeover in Turkey, Plastic Surgery Turkey Group (PSTG) coordinates your assessment, travel and aftercare, and the operation is performed by the treating surgeon at a contracted healthcare institution in Istanbul or Antalya.
Because every body changes differently after children, there is no standard package of operations. One woman may need a tummy tuck and a breast lift; another may need liposuction and implants but no abdominal skin removal. The surgeon builds the plan around what your examination shows and what can safely be done in one session. You can read about each individual procedure in our plastic surgery procedures.
Mommy makeover at a glance#
- What it is: a planned combination of procedures, usually abdominal surgery, breast surgery and often liposuction, carried out in one operation.
- Anaesthesia: general anaesthesia.
- Operating time: typically several hours, depending on what is combined.
- Hospital stay: one to two nights is common after a combined operation.
- Time in Turkey: longer than for a single operation. The surgeon sets the minimum stay and confirms when you can fly.
- Back to desk work: commonly after a few weeks. Lifting, heavy bags and core exercise stay restricted for around six to eight weeks or more.
- Final result: swelling settles over roughly two to six months, and scars keep maturing for a year or more.
- Usually not advised if: you are pregnant or plan more children soon, your BMI is above the surgeon's safe range for a long operation, you have uncontrolled diabetes, heart or lung disease or a history of blood clots, or you smoke and cannot stop.
Who is a good candidate#
A mommy makeover is usually considered when changes after pregnancy affect more than one area and have not improved with time, diet or exercise. Common concerns include:
- loose or overhanging skin on the lower abdomen, sometimes with stretch marks;
- a rounded belly caused by separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti);
- breasts that have dropped, lost volume, or both;
- stubborn fat on the flanks, hips, thighs or back.
You are more likely to be a suitable candidate if you:
- are in good general health and at, or close to, a weight you can maintain;
- have finished having children, or understand that another pregnancy can undo much of the result;
- have stopped breastfeeding and allowed your body time to recover (see the FAQ for timing);
- do not smoke, or can stop well before and after surgery;
- have practical support at home for the first weeks, especially with lifting children.
A combined operation is usually not advised if your BMI is well above the range your surgeon considers safe for this length of surgery, if you have uncontrolled diabetes, heart or lung disease, a history of blood clots, or if you are still losing a significant amount of weight. In these situations the surgeon may suggest reaching a stable weight first, reducing the plan, or splitting it into stages. Weight matters particularly for combined surgery, because a longer operation on a heavier body raises the risk of clots and wound problems.
If the main question is whether the separation in your abdominal muscles needs surgical repair, our article on repairing diastasis recti as part of a mommy makeover explains how it is assessed and treated.
Techniques and options#
The plan is usually drawn from the building blocks below. The table shows how common concerns map to the options your surgeon may discuss; the decision is always made after your examination.
| Your main concern | Options the surgeon may discuss | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Loose skin above and below the belly button, separated muscles | Full tummy tuck with muscle repair | Often the central procedure of a mommy makeover |
| Loose skin only below the belly button | Mini tummy tuck | Smaller amount of skin removed, shorter scar |
| Fat with good skin tone | Liposuction alone | No skin removal |
| Breasts have dropped but still have fullness | Breast lift | Uses your own breast tissue |
| Breasts have dropped and lost volume | Breast lift with implants | A common pattern after breastfeeding |
| Breasts have lost volume but sit at a good height | Breast augmentation | Implants or, less often, fat transfer |
| Breasts are larger and heavier after pregnancy | Breast reduction | Removes tissue and reshapes |
| Stubborn fat on the flanks, back or thighs | Liposuction added to the plan | Smooths the transition to the hips |
Abdomen#
- A full tummy tuck removes loose skin above and below the belly button and usually repairs separated muscles. It is the central procedure in many mommy makeovers.
- A mini tummy tuck treats only the area below the belly button and suits a smaller amount of loose skin.
- Liposuction alone may be enough when skin tone is good and the concern is mainly fat, not loose skin.
Breasts#
- A breast lift raises breasts that have dropped, using your existing tissue.
- A breast lift with implants raises and refills breasts that have both dropped and emptied, which is a very common pattern after breastfeeding.
- Breast augmentation alone suits breasts that have lost volume but still sit at a good height.
- A breast reduction is considered when pregnancy has left the breasts larger and heavier.
Body contouring#
- Liposuction of the flanks, waist, back or thighs is often added to shape the transition between the abdomen and the hips.
- Some plans include fat transfer to the buttocks. This adds operating time and has its own risks, so the surgeon weighs it carefully when it is part of a combined session.
Not everything can or should be done at once. The surgeon considers your health, the expected operating time and the total amount of fat and tissue removed. Where the plan is extensive, it may be split into two operations some months apart. Our article on what can be combined with an abdominoplasty explains the usual reasoning.
How the procedure is carried out#
Before surgery, you meet the surgeon in person for a full examination. The plan is confirmed, the areas are marked while you stand, and blood tests and anaesthetic checks are done. You are asked about medicines, supplements and smoking, and blood-clot prevention is planned.
On the day:
- the operation is carried out under general anaesthesia;
- it usually takes several hours, with the length depending on how many procedures are combined;
- the surgeon typically works on the breasts and abdomen in a planned order, with liposuction where it has been agreed;
- drains are often placed in the abdomen, dressings are applied, and you are fitted with a compression garment and a surgical bra.
A hospital stay of one to two nights is common after a combined operation, so nurses can monitor pain, fluid balance, drains and early walking.
Recovery and results#
Recovery is more demanding than after a single operation, because several areas are healing at the same time. The FAQ covers the usual timeline for returning to work and exercise; this is what the stages generally feel like.
- First days: you walk slightly bent at the waist to protect the abdominal repair, and the chest feels tight. Prescribed medication keeps pain manageable. Getting up and walking short distances from the first day helps prevent blood clots.
- First one to two weeks: drains are usually removed once output drops, and wounds are checked at follow-up visits. You gradually stand straighter. Fatigue is normal.
- Weeks two to six: compression garments and the surgical bra are worn as instructed. You still avoid lifting children, heavy bags and anything that strains the abdomen.
- Months two to six: swelling, particularly in the lower abdomen and liposuction areas, settles slowly. Numbness around the scars is common and usually improves.
- Twelve months or more: scars mature and fade, though they remain visible.
A realistic result is a flatter, firmer abdomen, a better-defined waist and breasts that sit higher or look fuller, depending on what was done. The scars are a trade-off: the abdominal scar sits low and usually runs from hip to hip, and breast scars depend on the lift pattern. Stretch marks outside the removed skin remain.

This is one patient's result. Skin quality, anatomy, healing and the procedures combined all change the outcome, so use photos to understand what is realistic rather than as a promise. Our mommy makeover recovery roadmap goes into more detail on the weeks after surgery.
Risks and limitations#
Combining procedures means one anaesthetic and one recovery period, but a longer operation carries more risk than a short one. The main risks include:
- blood clots in the legs or lungs, which is why early walking, compression and clot prevention matter;
- bleeding, haematoma or fluid collection (seroma) under the abdominal skin;
- infection and delayed wound healing, especially where scars meet or where skin is under tension;
- changes in skin or nipple sensation;
- contour irregularities after liposuction;
- implant-related problems such as capsular contracture, if implants are used;
- asymmetry, widened scars and the need for revision surgery.
The surgeon explains how your specific plan affects these risks. Smoking, a high BMI and certain medical conditions raise them significantly. Results also depend on keeping a stable weight afterwards.
How the price is built#
A mommy makeover is priced as a plan, not as a fixed package, because the procedures you need differ from one woman to the next. The main things that shape a quote are:
- which procedures are combined, for example a tummy tuck and breast lift compared with a tummy tuck, breast lift with implants and liposuction;
- the expected operating time and the length of the hospital stay;
- the type of implant, if implants are used;
- how many nights you stay in Turkey and the hotel category;
- what is coordinated beyond surgery: transfers, interpreter or assistant, medication, nursing and wound care, and follow-up.
PSTG gives a written treatment plan and quote only after the surgeon has reviewed your photos and medical history, so the figure matches the operation you are actually likely to need. When you compare quotes from any provider, ask in writing which procedures are included, whether the hospital stay, anaesthetist, medication, compression garments and follow-up visits are in the price, what happens if a revision is needed, and how aftercare works once you are home.
Flying in from the UK, the US or Australia#
Most of our patients travel a long way, and the journey home is part of the plan.
- From the UK and Europe: flights to Istanbul are usually a few hours, which makes it easier to bring a companion and to return for a check if the surgeon asks. UK readers can also see our mummy makeover guide for UK patients.
- From the US and Canada: flights are typically ten hours or more. Surgeons are often more cautious about when you fly after a long combined operation, so compression, walking and hydration matter more.
- From Australia and New Zealand: with connections, the journey commonly takes 20 hours or more each way. Plan a longer stay and ask the surgeon how long they want you in Turkey before a long-haul flight.
Wherever you fly from, tell your own doctor about your plans in advance, bring your operation notes and medication list home, set up virtual follow-up, and arrange help at home for lifting children. If you are travelling without family, our guide to travelling to Istanbul alone for a mommy makeover covers the practical side.
Planning your treatment in Turkey#
The process starts with an online assessment. You send photos of your abdomen and breasts from the front and sides, your height, weight and medical history, details of your pregnancies and deliveries (including any caesarean sections), and what bothers you most. The surgeon uses this to suggest which procedures are likely to be needed and whether a single session looks appropriate. A written treatment plan and quote follow once this medical assessment is done.
The stay in Turkey is longer than for a single operation, and the FAQ explains how the surgeon decides when you are ready to fly. PSTG coordinates the practical side, which for a combined operation often includes:
- airport, hotel and clinic transfers;
- a 4-5-star hotel stay, with meals and any special dietary needs arranged;
- a personal interpreter or assistant;
- pre- and post-operative consultations and follow-up appointments;
- post-operative medication, nursing and wound care, including drain checks;
- 24/7 support throughout your stay.
It helps to travel with a companion, and to arrange help at home for the first weeks after you return. Once you are home, we arrange virtual follow-up and can coordinate with your home doctor for wound or scar checks.
Where treatment takes place#
Surgery takes place at contracted healthcare institutions authorised for international health tourism in Istanbul and Antalya. The treating surgeon makes every clinical decision, including which procedures are combined, whether the plan is staged, and when you are fit to fly. PSTG is a health-tourism intermediary affiliated with TÜRSAB: we coordinate your treatment, travel and aftercare, and we do not carry out medical procedures. You can view mommy makeover before-and-after photos to see how results vary between patients.
