FUE Hair Transplant

FUE (follicular unit extraction) removes individual groups of hair follicles from a donor area — usually the back and sides of the scalp — using a small punch. They are then placed into tiny channels made in the thinning area. Because follicles are taken one by one, FUE leaves small dot-like scars instead of a single linear scar.

Good candidates have a stable pattern of hair loss and enough donor hair to cover the area naturally. Age, the cause of hair loss, hair calibre and how your loss may progress all matter. Younger people with active loss may be advised to wait or try medical treatment first. The final decision follows an in-person examination.

FUE is done under local anaesthesia. The anaesthetic injections are usually the most uncomfortable part; after that, most people feel pressure rather than pain. Afterwards the donor and recipient areas may feel tender or tight for a few days, and mild swelling of the forehead is common. Pain relief and aftercare instructions are provided.

Transplanted hairs commonly shed within the first weeks — this is expected. New growth usually begins after a few months and builds gradually. The final result is typically assessed around 12 months after the procedure, sometimes later for the crown. Density and appearance vary from person to person.

Transplanted follicles tend to keep the characteristics of the donor area, but your existing hair can continue to thin. That is why a good plan considers future loss and may include medical treatment to protect the hair you have. Temporary shedding of existing hair around the treated area can also happen after the procedure.
